Research suggests that weightlifting improves not just body composition and appearance, but one’s overall health as well.

In addition to these interests, Brian Borg turns to weightlifting to keep his body healthy and fit.

Research suggests that weightlifting improves not just body composition and appearance, but one’s overall health as well. It helps in burning fat, reduces the risks of health issues such as diabetes, prevents back pain, and reduces depression. The American Council on Exercise recommends lifting weights to increase lean body mass, which leads to an increased number of calories burned.

A study from the University of Alabama revealed that women who lifted weights lost more deep belly fat compared to those who did cardio exercises. Lifting heavy weights strengthens the core, and builds a more toned body. Aside from training the muscles, weightlifting also trains the bones. In performing a curl, the muscles pull on the bones in the arms. When this happens, the bones create new bone cells, making the bones stronger and denser over time.
