10 Foods That Are Directly Tied to Younger-Looking Skin

You don’t need the vanity cabinet. According to the experts, most people have some of the best anti-aging ingredients in their fridge. We will look at 10 food items that are easy to obtain and will give you the young looking skin you desire.

1. Veggies

We all know that veggies are important to our overall health. But did you know that a daily dose of vegetables will give you youthful skin too? A study posted on the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology found that women and men who a vegetable-rich diet, as well as fish and fruits, had fewer lines on their skin.

Leafy greens are a good source of vitamins C, carotenoids, calcium, and iron. Carotenoids are vitamin A derivatives that protect the skin against UV rays that cause the signs of premature aging of the skin such as fine lines, age spots, and wrinkles.

2. Fish

If you don’t love seafood, it’s time to gain an affinity for it. Fish is rich in omega 3 fatty acids which can reduce inflammation caused by the sun’s UV rays. It may also lower prostaglandin E2 levels which prevent the breakdown of collagen, leading to fewer wrinkles.

3. Fruit

Fruits are beneficial for many reasons but consuming fruit that has a particular carotenoid called lycopene can give you younger looking skin. Lycopene is a red pigment which provides tomatoes and berries their red color. It’s a powerful antioxidant that will protect you against sun damage.

4. Olive Oil

Olive oil has been linked to everything from protecting against heart disease and preventing strokes, and it could also be good for your skin. That’s because it contains monounsaturated lipids and antioxidants like polyphenol and vitamin E. All of which help to prevent wrinkles.

5. Legumes

Legumes might not be a familiar term to you, but you’re probably familiar with the various foods that fall into this category; lentils, beans, and chickpeas. These foods are rich in nutrients such as potassium, folate, magnesium, and iron that are important for the health of our skin. They also help prevent premature skin aging.

6. Kimchi

Kimchi is a staple of Korean cuisine and is made from fermented veggies such as radishes and cabbage. They are rich in probiotics and benefit our skin, especially in reducing adult acne.

7. Green tea

Green tea is the most powerful antioxidant-containing drink and of the healthiest drinks you can sip. A study conducted in 1997 found that green tea has catechin antioxidants that are more than 100 times more effective in neutralizing free radicals. Free radicals are some of the biggest ‘agers’ of our skin, similar to vitamin C. It’s recommended to drink two to three cups per day.

8. Coffee

Coffee doesn’t have the best reputation even though it provides many health benefits when moderately consumed. Because caffeine can constrict blood vessels, it helps to reduce swelling, redness, and inflammation. It also protects our skin from free-radical photo-damage and from loss of moisture due to its richness in antioxidants.

9. Almonds

Almonds are a great source of healthy fats which in many studies were found to improve the overall skin health. They also contain vitamins A, B, and E, which help to prevent skin inflammation. No wonder many dermatologists swear by these foods for brighter skin.

10. Turmeric

This versatile ingredient is used in many skin care products from moisturizers and serums to creams and masks. Turmeric is known for its anti-inflammatory, antioxidative, anti-microbial, wound-healing, and calming effects. Many researchers think it can heal and prevent dry skin as well as regulate sebum production.
