Here are just a few of the fun runs available that just might add a little fun (and fitness) to your year:
Wine and Chocolate Run
Combine your love for wine and chocolate at a race near you! This is seriously a thing. Last year, I participated in a Valentine’s Day weekend run with a chocolate theme in Savannah, Georgia, but wine and chocolate-themed events happen throughout the country. Simply search active.com for a race event near you.
For those who aren’t fans of wine, search for a beer run. No, not the kind of beer run that involves leaving a party to get more beer. These runs involve drinking beer and celebrating with others who are doing the same.
Krispy Kreme Challenge
Yes, there is a race that centers around donuts for all the pastry lovers out there. Run, stop for donuts, run some more, and if you can stand it, finish the race and have some more sweet treats. Find a race near you to take the Kripsy Kreme Challenge.
There are so many mud run options available in the racing world. The Dirty Girl Mud Run offers a women-only racing event, but many obstacle runs exist that allow you to get dirty for a good cause. You don’t have to be fast to run a mud run. In fact, the mud is sure to slow you down. But it can also be a great time!
If your idea of running is because someone is chasing you, sign up to be chased by a zombie at a race near you. This is a real thing, and it’s usually held near Halloween. If you prefer going slow to running fast and enjoy cosplay, sign up to be the zombie chasing the runners for a spooky good time. Prepare for the zombie apocalypse by signing up for a zombie run near you!
There are so many fun run events that involve an element of cosplay. I’ve seen superhero races for charity and costume races for Halloween. If dressing up in character is your thing, there’s a race out there for you.
These runs are fun for the whole family. Obstacles are appropriate for a wide age range and make it possible for busy families to tackle fitness together. If you like playing on a bounce house or slide, this is the race for you. Make it a family fun fitness event!
If a triathlon seems outside of your comfort zone, wrap your head around a mindful triathlon. The Wanderlust 108 combines yoga, meditation, and a 5k run for a day of mindful fun. Vendors for this event often included trapeze artists, tarot card readers, local and national charity organizations, and handmade crafts.
If you have an artistic side, this is the event for you. Wear white, and at every kilometer, prepare to be splashed with colored powder by event volunteers. At the end of the race, you’re a colorful masterpiece and can join the party that awaits you.
