4 Easy Ways to Stay Hydrated – Vipe Desai – Medium

You hear all the time about how you need to drink water. It might not seem like a big deal but staying hydrated is essential to keeping your body functioning properly. Whether you are an athlete or a couch potato, dehydration can be serious. You will feel sluggish, dizzy and you can even pass out. If you feel “off” during the day, there is a good chance that you are dehydrated! Here are 4 easy ways to make sure you are getting enough water during the day.

1. Go Digital

One reason you are probably dehydrated is that you just forget to drink water. You get busy working or running errands with family and the next thing you know, you have not drunk any water all day. A simple reminder on your phone can keep you in check. Set an alarm for every hour to drink water. You can also use apps to keep track of your intake. Every time you finish a water bottle, log your intake so you know you are getting at least 64 ounces in a day.

2. Make it Tasty

If you are used to drinking flavored drinks like coffee, tea, and soda, then water can be a bit boring. Add in a hydration mix like HDX and put some flavor in your water. You will also get the added benefit of vitamins, minerals and electrolytes. Plus, HDX Hydration Mix also has less sugar than soda and is diabetic friendly. You can also explore the world of sparkling waters. There are many flavored options available to help you cut the soda habit and still get your bubbly fix. You will stay hydrated and take in less calories!

3. Use a Visual Reminder

If you need a visual aid to remember to drink your water, then grab a sharpie and mark your water bottles up. You can set time goals for yourself and then use the marks to keep you on track. For example, put a mark ¼ of the way down the bottle and label it 8 am. Half way is 10 am. Keep going until the bottom of the bottle. You can buy a reusable water bottle or use plastic jugs or water bottles. If you feel really fancy, you can even buy smart water bottles that will light up and remind you when it is time to drink.

4. Drink Before You Eat

Make sure you are drinking at least 12 ounces of water before you dig in to your meals. If you are eating out, always ask for a glass of water in addition to any other drink you may order. Eating at home or work? Keep a bottle nearby so you can remember to drink it before you get up to go to lunch. This will force you to drink more water and you get the added bonus of feeling more full before you eat, helping you lose weight.

Staying hydrated can be difficult and may not feel like it should be a high priority. However, your body must have water to live. If you want to feel better, lose weight, and stay mentally sharp, then you must stay hydrated. Grab a bottle, fill it up, and drink. Your body will thank you!
